At the end of last year, our Polish colleagues realised an interesting project. A VETTER slewing jib crane to be operated as maintenance crane was mounted to a KALMAR container crane.
The impressive and huge container crane is operated in Małaszewicze in the east of Poland where one of the largest, multi-modal logistics centres for container handling in Europe can be found. Here, containers from Asia transported on wagons with different gauges are reloaded to wagons with European gauges. The Małaszewicze terminal perfectly connects Western Europe to Eastern Europe and Asia.
The MEISTER crane by VETTER is rather inconspicuous in this huge terminal but nonetheless it is of utmost importance: Thanks to its capacity of 500 kg, it lifts the tools and spare parts required for maintenance and repair onto the gantry crane with a height of more than 30 m to constantly ensure its reliability and smooth operation. An electric chain hoist featuring a lifting height of 32 m is used as hoist. In order to prevent wind and weather from affecting the crane and hoist in this exposed place, we fitted with crane with a customised weather protection system comprising of:
The picture gallery shows the impressive dimensions of the components. The installation was a real challenge for our Polish colleagues but they coped with it brilliantly.
