Styria in the south of Austria, often referred to as the ‘Green March’, is characterised by extensive meadows, dense forests and an unspoilt natural landscape. In the middle of this environment, in the district of Murau in the municipality of St. Lambrecht, the Kölbl family has been running a traditional fish farm since the 1950s. The family business is now run by the third generation and is one of the most important trout farms in the country. Every year, around two million trout are reared in the company's own hatchery and delivered throughout Austria.

In order to organise the internal work processes more efficiently, the company has recently started using a modern slewing jib crane from VETTER. With its impressive dimensions of 6 metres in height and a radius of 10 metres, the type M column-mounted slewing jib crane blends harmoniously into its natural surroundings. The new crane plays a central role in the logistics: the fish tanks are loaded directly through an opening in the roof of the hatchery onto waiting lorries with the help of the slewing crane - quickly, safely and gently. The electric crane functions - lifting, lowering, swivelling and trolley movement - enable convenient and precise operation. This means that the sensitive transport containers can be moved with the utmost care, which is particularly important in fish farming.

The crane has been fitted with special additional equipment for year-round outdoor use:

  • Splash-proof electric chain hoist
  • Weather canopy to protect the electric chain hoist from the weather
  • Weather-resistant neoprene cable for maximum safety
  • Special paint finish for improved corrosion protection and longer service life

Thanks to these features, the VETTER slewing jib crane is ideally equipped for outdoor use and will contribute to the success of Kölbl Fish Farm for many years to come.
